ORDINATION

Hello Everyone! No. I haven't fallen off the face of the earth! I have been preparing for the trip of a lifetime. This afternoon I leave for Phoenix and tomorrow evening I will officially become an Ordained Animal Chaplain. Graduation services take place on Thursday evening, and somewhere during all of this you might find me floating on air.....or in the air flying east and west:) It's going to be a whirlwind trip but a trip that has been looked forward to with great preparation and anticipation. Hopefully, we will have pictures, but I know I will have stories to share. Love and Light, Barbra |
Changes, Changes, Changes

Hello Everyone! Posting has become a non-event lately due to major events leaving both mind and spirit adapting to continuous change. I owe so many so much, both new friends and those who have traveled by my side over the past decades. One wise sage once said, "Nothing is permanent, not even a permanent," and the older I get, the more these words ring true. I do want to let you know, though, I am currently in the middle of a move, will soon be missing someone very dear who has been one of my biggest supporters on this journey I am traveling. And am very busy finishing up my Animal Chaplain Studies aiming for an April Ordination. So, please bear with me as I am just getting started, and am finding myself, if only for a few more days, "62 with lots to do." Stay Tuned. Love and Light, Barbra Richards |
HAPPY HOLIDAY BLOG

Kismet says, "Happy Holidays Everyone!!" and learn how just one voice can help one animal. Then look below for a Holiday Message. I hope this warms your heart as much as it warmed mine. I sensed a weariness from the handlers as they had just put in a
12-hour day for which most of it I had the privilege of observing. There
was also skepticism sensed and questioning looks as the ceremony started, but
Janet Kraft’s beautiful opening piece
played on her harp provided a centering space for everyone present and
it drew me closer to my connection with Spirit. The first amazing part was when my mind wandered into the spectator’s
reactions, I found I actually had the presence of mind to pull back into my
Center and focus on speaking to the horses. That's when the magic began!
After the third Foal was officially named, I noticed a more accepting reaction
from the spectators and by the fifth Foal, chills were spreading across my
body. To my surprise, before I
even reached out to everyone for a repeat of a name, their voices were strong
and forthcoming and they were sitting in front of me with smiles on their faces
and tears in their eyes. The eighth and last horse was my favorite as I had gone out to Ray
of Light Farm again after our visit and Bonnie told me the foals had arrived but
not to get too close. So, up the hill I went and saw them all huddled
together eating and drinking. Believe it or not, a white Foal poked its
head out of the barn and proceeded to come right up to me at the fence, not
blinking, steady stare all the way. It reminded me of my first encounter
of the white horse I shared with you previously. I had my daughter
standing next to me and she couldn't believe it either. When I went up to this white horse in the ceremony, I said,
"Charm. This is Charm." She again came right up close and I leaned in and looked into
her eyes. I saw and felt her Spirit and
mine become One. There was a vague,
non-distracting mind picture of Anna Twinney from Reach Out to Horses running
up in front of me kneeling on the ground and snapping pictures, but what once
would have been a complete focus breaker became an invitation of, yes, if you can
capture this moment, please do. Frank Weller from Equine Animal Rescue Sanctuary was capturing
everything on video and was grinning from ear to ear when I walked back to the spectators
to share my next step of talking to the horses as a group. Again, to my surprise, I was greeted with an
unexpected burst of applause. I turned then to address the Foals for the last time. I could tell they were genuinely affected as
they stood peacefully and attentively as Janet played her harp and sang her last
beautiful melody. As I slowly walked
through the center of their stalls, I thought I died and went to Heaven. The energy in that barn was palpable. There you have it, my first Naming Ceremony, a memory I will forever
cherish. It’s rather ironic. I
gave myself to the Foals and they in turn have given me back my voice. Be safe in your travels and stay warm. Love and Light, Barbra Richards, Paws, Prayers ‘n People |

My Path to Animal Chaplaincy

THE WHITE HORSE Can you see the connection? On a picture perfect Autumn day last October, I made the unexpected acquaintance of a beautiful white horse and a Croatian healer named Braco. Energy soaring, my friend and I stopped along a stone wall to visit some horses that were hanging out nearby. As I was preparing to leave, I glanced over my shoulder and caught the eyes of a horse on the far end of the pasture. For some reason, we both stopped in our tracks. He had been grazing with a friend. In total amazement and never breaking eye contact, we both approached the stone wall. And, no! This isn't a romance novel! He rested his head on the wall in front of me, and this may sound insane, but the energy was palpable. All I could think of was: What is happening here? Welcome to my journey. It has been completely amazing so far. So much to share that's already happened and new things on the horizon. Please bear with me as I attempt to put things in order....and catch up on my homework. Hurricane Irene
Posted on 3 September, 2011 at 23:07 |

Front Yard Clean-Up Hurricane Irene hit last week leaving her mark just about everywhere in New England including our wooded State of Connecticut. Loss of power and flooding brought neighbors and friends closer together. And as of this writing, there are still those soldiering through without many familiar creature comforts we all take for granted. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. For myself, one of the fortunate ones, I experienced no flooding and my power was out for only 24 hours. This slow-motion passage of time created “space” to contemplate. So, I slid my two pets, Kismet, my Maine Coon, and Smudgy, my Shih Tzu, over on the window seat (see pix on my home page), lit a candle or two, and inwardly began a review and renewal of my life's current path, Animal Chaplaincy. The candle holders were the type that covered the flames so there would be no singed, fluffy tails nor toasted, pushed-in noses. This is a sure example of how even disasters such as Katrina do have embedded within them "some" positive lessons for change. (Part of my life's review and renewal.) Has Hurricane Irene shifted anyone else's perceptions at all? Love & Light, Barbra |
